Those who have been around since last summer have seen me talk about Trump’s narcissistic personality disorder a lot.

What we’re seeing today is the death spiral of a narcissist.

1/

In a way, I’m actually more comfortable with the Trump we’re seeing now:

Irrational, flailing, emotionally dysregulated, lashing out in a lunatic jag of denials and ridiculous accusations.

This is the real Trump. This is authentic narcissism unrestrained.

2/

What his ongoing meltdown tells us is this:

Trump sees his worst fear coming true:

Being discovered as unworthy of public esteem.

He is an illegitimate president and he knows that is coming to light.

This is worse than death for a narcissist.

3/

Trump’s handlers have kept him quiet but he is now so overcome by his primitive, dysfunctional impulses, he can’t control himself.

His flailing will get worse from here - but it will entirely focus on the source of his shame:

His outing as a fake president.

4/

He isn’t going to nuke North Korea...

...but he is going to go nuclear on everyone around him in a spectacular, near-manic spree of utterly insane tweets and statements.

Trump is entering the death spiral of narcissists: getting caught, knowing it and making it so much worse.

I’ve seen this so many times up close, it feels as familiar as an old pair of slippers.

All there is to do is settle in and watch as the man-child melts down in a colossal tantrum.
