1/ The fact that I’ve made money as an entrepreneur and subsequent investor in crypto should not disqualify me from calling out unethical behavior and practices in this industry.
2/ I stand by every organization I’ve founded and investment I’ve made. I have hardly sold a satoshi. I don’t trade and I don’t have an extravagant lifestyle (despite some media portrayals).
3/ I’m not having a “moral awakening” as some are suggesting. This industry is just getting out of hand and I’m calling it like I see it.

The petty resentment is not cute.

I’ve never screwed anyone in a half decade in this space and never invested in a crapcoin (in my opinion.)
4/ There’s a clear distinction between the greed overwhelming this industry and the technological idealism of years past.

Don’t conflate them.

Unpopular opinion: one of the big inhibitors to innovation in tech is many programmers’ lack of respect for those who don’t code or know how.

Lack of appreciation for non-technical perspectives and leadership creates a culture of science experiments and solutions to non-problems
Coders are modern day wizards. They string together a bunch of characters and create magic. It’s remarkable.

Neverthelsss, perspective and theses grounded in the real world and real problems are necessary to catalyze change.
Programmers can be extraordinary business leaders and entrepreneurs but I find that Silicon Valley has fostered a culture of derision towards those in non-technical roles.

Just my two satoshis.

1/ As blockchain technology and cryptoassets become more present in the news, conversations, and part of the zeitgeist, I keep revisiting the concept of “crossing the chasm” of technology adoption and I try to assess where we are.
2/ On the one hand, Bitcoin and to a lesser extent, blockchains, have become household words. They’ve become socially and economically relevant. From the perspective of societal awareness, we’re at probably 50-65% awareness of this tech. Maybe just less, depending on who you ask.
3/ On the other hand, no one is using this technology (relative to the overall population.) If you count all enterprise deployments, traders, black market, & consumer use cases, we’re probably at 2% market penetration, give or take. Add some points for all people who own crypto.

1/ If cryptoasset prices are giving you anxiety, you have two choices:

1. Reevaluate your view of crypto.

2. Xanax
2/ It’s quite likely prices will go down before they go up.

It’s even more likely that it will take quite some time for cryptoassets to reach their all-time highs again.
3/ There was not a single cryptoasset a month ago that was properly valued— we were in the midst of mania.

Even today I’d argue that almost all assets are overvalued given their current utility.

(THREAD) Reporters' confusion over the difference between direct and circumstantial evidence has led to a dangerous false equivalence between Cohen's claim Trump knew of the 2016 Trump Tower meeting and Trump's denial. There's ample evidence Trump knew—read this thread to see it.
1/ Direct evidence is seeing it rain. Circumstantial evidence is waking up, looking out your window, seeing that the grass is soaking wet, and taking that as *some* evidence it rained the night before. The *overwhelming majority* of evidence in criminal cases is *circumstantial*.
2/ Because reporters think—contrary to fact—that direct evidence isn't just the primary but in fact the only form of evidence in criminal cases, they're trying to "solve" the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting mystery by comparing the direct evidence each side has publicly presented.

I see the "callout culture" argument flaring up again.

Nothing I love more than that argument. SO USEFUL.
I'm going to say some things.

The Twitter Left is bad. It falls into patterns + socialization that Twitter has established in service of high engagement numbers.

These patterns + socialization are entirely compatible with the ones established to preserve capitalist hierarchy.
"Callouts" are not the actual issue, it's that callouts, intentionally and unintentionally, are mined for social capital.

Because capitalism extends to the social, especially via neoliberalism.

[2/4] Why the outrage over calling out SHS and Kellyanne as liars? I haven’t seen anything in the replayed clips that is as “mean” as the insults our President routinely hurls at anyone who doesn’t stroke his tiny ego, amplified by SHS and Kellyanne
[3/4] Have we gotten so beaten down that we’ll accept behaviors from our President that we won’t from a comedian who gets paid to push boundaries and shock people? That we are more concerned with someone calling someone else a liar than with being told lies in the first place?

1/ I've been thinking about this a lot the last few weeks, and I can't let it go. Dear everyone: Stop letting your bosses tell you the company is really "like a family." It's not, and that kind of talk is often used to manipulate employees, especially younger employees.
2/ Watch when bosses use this language. Do they talk of the company as "family" when they're trying to extract more work out of you for less pay? When they're asking you to stop whistle-blowing or protect a higher-up who is doing bad things?
3/ Your job is not your family. And whenever you hear someone tell you that, you should kinda worry a little. What do they want you to forget/forgive/shut up about?
