Thread on how to see if your Vanguard fund has holdings of publicly-traded gun companies and a possible alternative (I’m not a financial professional and this is not financial advice - just pointing you where to look for the info.)
This is based on the following article and my experience making a switch myself: marketwatch.com/story/your-401…
First, to look for what is in your current fund(s): find fund names and abbreviations in your own portfolio. Then go to the following link: advisors.vanguard.com/VGApp/iip/site…
This will bring you to a page where you can enter individual stock tickers for gun companies to see if they make up part of your fund(s).
The three publicly trade gun companies are American Outdoor Brands (AOBC), Ruger (RGR) and Vista Outdoors (VSTO). When I did a search, we had 2 of the 3 in our index fund.
If you have these companies in your fund(s) and you are interested in more information on a Vanguard fund that doesn’t, they do have a social index fund where stocks are screened for social/environmental factors, Vanguard FTSE Social Index Fund (VFTSX).
For more info on that fund: personal.vanguard.com/us/funds/snaps… (For us, it was a higher expense ratio than our old fund but we were ok with that tradeoff.)
a thread for you.
, if you think others would be interested.
