Had a conversation with a GOP staffer today who kept referring to “The Trump Show,” which is how a lot of Republicans refer to the dysfunction now and it’s a huge part of the problem. 1/
A part of the reason some Republicans don’t do more to protect against Trump is because they’re used to the character/fictional part of politics in which politicians choose exaggerated, simplified characters for mass media 2/
Trump, as a reality TV star, feels like a natural extension to them, a logical evolution. It doesn’t help that reality TV pushes what some would call “Car Crash” entertainment where dysfunction equals ratings. 3/
From what the staffer said, there are many who think this is a character Trump is playing, even while his administration collapses around him. He’s even suggested as much. But there’s a problem... 4/
Reports inside Trump’s circle, including confidants and employees, some I’ve talked to, report that he’s increasingly delusional and detached from reality. 5/
It’s been hinted at that Trump is collapsing into his character and losing sight of who he actually is. What’s left? A dysfunctional tabloid seeking reality TV star without morals or principles. 6/
If that’s true, him having control of our nuclear arsenal without any safeguards should terrify everyone, including Republicans who should do something but are willfully blind to the terrible reality. 7/
There are some who are talking now and are increasingly horrified. More people need to look past this narrative, this facade driven worldview, and realize what’s at stake. 8/8
