1/2 The @CommonsEUexit report on the Brexit negotiations has been published - asks for a short extension of EU membership to complete negotiations if needed - parliament.uk/business/commi…
2/x This "gentleman's" comment, is, against extraordinarily tough competition, one of the most dishonest comments ever made on Brexit. The committee report clearly assumes Brexit will go ahead and simply discusses the details.
3 Some good points on the rights of @The3Million and @BritishInEurope who move before Brexit day

Recognition that
- there are still points outstanding
- acquired rights should be retained
- rights of return for EU27/free movement for UK citizens in the EU27 should be agreed
4 The committee recognises that the Home Office has an...unimpressive record of administration, and that vulnerable groups will need protection.
5 However it seems to accept the notion of "settled status" despite the Home Office's deficiencies. For some reason it also wants 27 versions of the same inflicted upon UK citizens in the EU27. I wonder how many EU27 interior ministries are models of efficiency?
6 Some good ideas about scrutiny of who gets appointed to the authority that will help defend EU27 citizens' rights.

I would add that they should also consider its powers and when it becomes operational.
7 Obviously understandable that they don't want Toby Young in charge
8 The border issue.
The committee agrees with the UK government's rejection of the Commission proposals, but then asks the right difficult questions.
9 Will the future relationship with the EU be agreed by October?

The committee knows a 🦄 when it sees one.
10 Here's the Remainer porn in the report: a possible "limited" extension of EU membership, purely if necessary to finish negotiating a detailed declaration on the future relationship. Modest stuff.
11 Also in favour of a limited extension of the transition period if necessary - another awkward issue
12 The committee shoots down the government's idea of fewer rights for EU27 citizens who arrive during the transition period. An odd failure to mention UK citizens moving the other way.
13 The committee would like to know more about the government's plans on rolling over treaties, and on the transition period in general. Who wouldn't?
14 A fairly modest statement about the government's failure to model its preferred relationship with the EU; but the committee ignores the content of the modelling that was done. Yet it rightly points out the recklessness of the red lines.
15 Overall: some decent scrutiny of the government's position on @The3Million and @BritishInEurope and the transition period. Not much on the future relationship. The support for extension of EU membership or the transition period is quite modest. /ends
