At the height of its colonial rule, Denmark could be compared to the likes of Germany and the U.K.
A country that for centuries made imaginable fortunes on the expense of countless lives, and enslaved human laybor from Greenland, to Ghana, to India and (what is now known as) 1/3
American Virgin Islands.
There has not been a single public display of acknowledgement of that very important part of history — until now.

The statue of Mary Thomas who in 1876 led the biggest rebellion against Danish colonialism in the West Indies was unveiled 3/31/2018.

She now stands over 7 meters tall and will go down in history as a symbol of freedom, equality; the perseverance and strength of those who fought against Danish colonial oppression! #IAMQUEENMARY
