I find it rather amusing when people quit with reading certain authors because "it's hard to read" or "doesn't capture the attention."

That's consumerism. That attitude won't help you find knowledge.
I'll explain why and guarantee — you will start thinking outside the box.
To treat reading as consumption is a hundred percent wrong approach.
It is easy to spot consumerist readers because they have nothing of their own; ideas they read somewhere, rehashed and repeated.

Does this image feel cheap, "too stock" and boring?
So do consumerist readers.
If I didn't explain the picture choice, consumerists would think I just have no taste.
It wouldn't provoke the thought process because consumerist readers don't think — they strictly memorize.

Fascinating? Memorized.

Not fascinating? Perceived as a space filler.
(a) Proficient reader picks a book not because it is full of information, but because —our— brain is full of information that we want to extract.
And one of the most effective ways of achieving that is to read.

Our mind can produce something out of seemingly nothing.
First time I pick a book, I write more than I actually read.
This way I maximize the use of associative thinking and don't interrupt it.

Associative thinking is a super-power; it allows you to extract new thoughts out of what's already on the plate.
Since the young age, we are taught to memorize what we told and discard our own thoughts.
Implantation, not education.

Duplicate what is already in abundance, not nourish what is lacking.
Ancients didn't read books, they studied them.
That's how concepts evolved and different schools of thought formed.

In the ancient world, progress was vital for nations to survive, so people needed to think and rethink.

To think is to create.
Rehashing creates nothing.
Funny people claim they read one book a day.
But how many books they have studied?

How many notes did they take?
How many notes did they make?
