1. Starting from September 2019, the University of Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne is opening a new Master Programme « Finance Technology Data ». I am very excited to co-direct it with Catherine Bruneau. Here is the preliminary web-page for our Programme: pantheonsorbonne.fr/diplomes/mbfa/…
2. This Programme is the academic response to the Fintech developments: loan-based and security-based crowdfunding, mobile payments, blockchain and cryptocurrencies, ICOs, the use of big data and machine learning, the entry of GAFA in finance.
3. The Programme is a combination of study and work. Teaching will take place on Mondays/Tuesdays. The rest of the week students will gain professional experience in Fintechs, banks, insurance companies, consulting companies, Fintech supervisory and regulatory bodies.
4. Teaching will be organized around 4 blocks: 1. Finance and Economics; 2. Big Data and Machine Learning, 3. Fintech and 4. Active Learning
5. The block on Big Data and Machine Learning will give students programming skills in R and Python to apply big data techniques (web scraping; text mining) and machine learning (Logit, Lasso, Decision tree learning and Random Forest, Artificial neural networks, etc.)
6. The Fintech block will consist of the following courses: Economics and Technology of Blockchain, Monetary Economics and Crypto-Currencies, Fintech and Financial Intermediation, Digital Economics (GAFA), Fintech Regulation and Regtech, Insurtech, Fintech and Payments.
7. The Active Learning block will allow students to practice their team work and presentation skills, as well as work on their own projects. It will consist of Fintech Research Seminar; Fintech Case Study; Fintech Team Project; Fintech Research Project.
8. Nobody knows how the financial sector will look in the future. This is why our teaching staff will represent different views and will include start-up founders that aspire to disrupt traditional banks as well as regulators & supervisors with a more conservative approach
9. Research will play an important role in this Master Programme and I hope that some students will pursue a PhD after it.
10. Do not hesitate to contact us if you want to cooperate. We are still looking for instructors as well as companies willing to hire our students. While we are based in Paris, we will be able to invite some foreign guest speakers. Suggestions of all kinds are welcome!
