AWS Lambda owns 70% percent of the active serverless platform user base - searchaws.techtarget.com/blog/AWS-Cloud… ... let me translate that for you. Amazon is currently positioned to own 70% of the future of ALL software.
... I do find it hilarious we're going through the same changes as IaaS. Huge companies dithering with their "We will play a Charles Handy 2nd curve" (fine in product play, terrible idea in product to utility substitution) as Amazon calmly walks away with the future.
Whilst some panic about "AWS Fargate" ... and don't get me wrong, it's very useful ... the killer is Lambda & the change of practice caused by functional billing. Some get it, many don't. No different from Cloud in 2008, in fact almost identical.
The future CPAN of software is being built - aws.amazon.com/serverless/ser…
The glue for commerce, already exists through API Gateway.
In the future, you won't write most of your "new" application, you'll buy 95% of it as services through AWS Marketplace.
The way we monitor applications will shift towards capital flow within applications. Refactoring will have financial value. The way we invest, the business models we create ... all is about to change. The next decade will be thrilling. And you thought cloud / DevOps was big. Lol.
It took 7 years of "Oh, you don't want to use Cloud because of security" until the security industry started to on mass realise "Oh, you can completely change security in the cloud by moving virtual infrastructure and automated discovery of assets" ...
... I'm not surprised that the same old security tropes come up with serverless (i.e. Lambda). Just wait for 7 years until the security industry, on mass, starts to twig what transient functions can do for security. Levels of security they've never imagined before.
