It speaks volumes that most police in California won’t even support a bill that requires they *attempt* reasonable alternatives before shooting people.
The dominant argument put forward by the police is that they should be able to shoot people unnecessarily. That shooting people unnecessarily is essential to keeping police and the public safe.
This argument is even more ridiculous than the NRA’s “good guy with a gun” argument. The police are saying we should give the “guy with a gun” legal cover to shoot people unnecessarily. They really don’t have a credible argument to make.
