To be honest, I couldn't care less whether or not liberals, or conservatives, indulge in self-examination. I only ask that media stop being in the tank for one party or another. There is no institution in America today which is as disgraceful and despicable as our partisan media.
People on the left don't clean up their act because they know they will not be held accountable by the media so long as they pay lip service to liberal causes. People on the right don't clean up their act because media's credibility with them is zero so criticism has no purchase.
Considering the critical importance of free press in our democracy, the founding fathers instituted specific constitutional protections for free press to flourish. What a disgrace then that the press has decided to become a voluntary handmaiden to a political party.

Cause-driven news coverage is cancerous to free press. Media should of course report on cause-driven events but must not join them, explicitly or implicitly (via selective coverage). Media must not have a dog in the fight. Media's job is to inform, not to instruct.
