1) I would like to take a moment before leaving working, seeing Deadpool 2, and probably ignoring the internet for a weekend, to talk about a concept that I think is probably relevant to today's occurrences that I'm in no mood to talk about.
2) I call it Retaliatory Coercion.

Basic concept is, that there are some terrible acts that individuals perform which no matter how many preparations and failsafes you create, they will strike, and they will cause a tragedy.
3) In order to prevent those events, then, you have to make sure that the next time someone DOES perform that act, you retaliate against that person in such a way and with such decisiveness and viciousness that everyone else then thinks twice about ever doing it themselves.
4) Let me give you a less severe example. Kathy Griffin's Trump beheading photoshoot.
5) Trump Derangement Syndrome was taking a nasty turn, and Kathy Griffin was the first washed up Hollywood moron no one gave a damn about any more to try and take it a step further, beyond just angry dumbassed tweets.
6) It took her a YEAR before she was able to book any shows. Once she did, well, when was the last time you heard about Kathy Griffin? Apparently she's fallen back into the ravine of washed up celebrity purgatory.
7) She did the photo shoot, the retaliation was so swift and thorough that she went into virtual hiding for a year and became persona-non-grata, now she's back to being that redhead no one even remembers giving a damn about.
8) As a result, no other washed up celeb trying to make a name for themselves has even DARED tried to do some Trump death wish publicity stunt. Retaliatory Coercion.
9) Now on a bigger scale. Another way to look at the battle with the Russians in Syria. Russia had been swinging their soldiers around thinking they were the kings of Syria, and as long as they were around the US wouldn't do crap.

Then this happened. independent.co.uk/news/world/mid…
10) Russia learned their lesson WELL. Because the next time the US made a move in Syria, the entire Russian navy packed their shit and ran. dailystar.co.uk/news/world-new…
11) Oh, and they're not giving Syria S-300 missiles. Not like they are worth a damn anyways, since Israel is able send their fighters into Syrian airspace and strike with impunity. southfront.org/russia-is-not-…
12) Retaliatory coercion. Haven't heard of anyone else stepping up to take a swing at US forces either, have you? Even have North Korea bowing out.
13) On a personal level, the backlash Kathy Griffin suffered and the subsequent backslide into obscurity prevented anyone else from doing a similar stupid publicity stunt at Trump's expense. Russia getting thrashed has quashed any chance of the US in a direct military conflict.
14) Now, hypothetically, in the case of school shooters that we have taken alive, because as @ThomasWictor has suggested they're not killing themselves so they can enjoy their subsequent notoriety. How would you apply the principle of Retaliatory Coercion to deter other shooters?
15) It doesn't have to be a violent one. I'm not calling for lynchings. I'm not even calling for hatred, though they do deserve scorn.
16) But... its the same principle as @ScottAdamsSays talks about with calling terrorists losers. Terrorists don't want to be called losers!
17) So, just hypothetically speaking of course... what if mass shooters were pilloried, shamed, humiliated, torn down, subject to the absolute worst mockery and derision that the human race is capable of?
18) Put in solitary confinement, the only contact with the outside world being a drop box full of the contents of where people put the absolute worse that they can muster against them.
19) No one knows if they're getting off to the punishment, if they're enjoying the attention, or anything. They're locked in a box, forgotten until someone decides to throw a bit of hate their way. Then, one day.... the letters stop, as everyone forgets about the shooter.
20) Every other mass shooter has to think... if I go through with this, that's what I'M going to go through. locked in a box and subjected to mockery and humiliation, then perpetual loneliness.
21) Who knows. Mass shooters are crazy. Maybe that is too good for them. This is just me spitballing. /end
