1/2 After we have defeated Brexit, those of us who have become more politicised by the Remain campaign will need some sort of plan so we don’t get into this mess again. I think it would be a good thing if we started working towards a modernised constitution, preferably written.
2/2 Too much has been made up on the fly lately - fixed term Parliaments, rules around coalitions, advisory/ binding referendums, HoL reform, PR/ FPTP. We need a good sort out because the present system is creaking under the strain of coping with the 21st century.
And crucially, we need it codified so the government of the day isn’t at liberty to change things about at a whim simply for their political convenience. Referendums should be reserved to, and necessary for constitutional change.
