why do people keep saying this is not who we are? It’s precisely who we are from slavery to the trail of tears to japanese internment camps to the current stuff. It’s just it seems worse because we’re living it. We fight it, but it’s always been there.
and I am leaving out thousands of pages of similar examples because I only have 240 characters
Basically when people say “This is not who we are” they were either not paying attention or they are fortunate enough to live in a position of privilege that none of this has ever effected them. I mean, there are damned near a million black men in prison RIGHT FUCKING NOW
We publicly execute black men on a daily basis, and when a movement is born to protest that, half the damned country loses their collective shit and slaps all lives matter stickers on their cars and burn Kaepernick’s jersey in effigy.
The President trashed every single minority during the election and near half the country said “Fuck yeah sign me up” while NPR was openly showing white supremacists campaigning for the man.
This is PRECISELY who the fuck we are. The only surprise is it didn’t happen earlier.
