from reports from several accounts i hear that 4 people are wounded and possibly 3 dead in a shooting in suruç (urfa province). alleged perpetrators: #akp candidate mp and his assistents campaigning. victims: owners of small business who didn't want akp in their shop. #turkey
latest: 2 dead (the father and son who owned the shop and refused campaigning #akp candidate mp inside) and 8 wounded. @OzgurrGundem reports the campaigning akp man was ibrahim halil yıldız. pics via same account.
death toll reportedly up to 5. #suruç
#akp channel a-haber makes a correction on their earlier report that there are three 'martyrs' in #suruç: 'there is one martyr and two deaths.'
i predict the father and son who were shot to death in #suruç will soon be framed by the government and its media as at least terrorist supporters, most likely terrorists themselves. which is an easy #prediction.
after murders in #suruç, the #hdp calls on the people of suruç, the democratic public opinion and the whole of #turkey to not get provoked and reminds government and media that they should use responsible language.
also so-called opposition paper sözcü decides to quote only government sources on the #murders in #suruç.
as predicted, erdoğan says: 'the brother of our member of parliament was killed by pkk.' #suruç
most people in #turkey believe this because for four decades they have been indoctrinated to believe the #state when it paints a picture of the #pkk randomly killing people. many never visit the southeast and truly have no clue.
so the official state version of the #murders in #suruç isn't true? how can i know? i have seen @OzgurrGundem @MAturkce and other kurdish media report on events that i attended and never caught them lying. while lying is default of state media, especially when it's about kurds.
plus: when #pkk murders, they take responsibility and publish a statement claiming the murder. kurdish media spread these statements for everybody to see. even turkish media report them, without the backgrounds provided by pkk of course but still.
but this is basically irrelevant. as it looks now, 5 people have been killed in #suruç after a father and son didn't want #akp mp candidate in their shop. father and son shot by security of mp, also the brother of mp died. let's wait for more updates and i'll keep you posted.
funeral of the two brothers - sons of the shop owner who was also killed - who were murdered yesterday in #suruc.
since last night, more news about #suruc murders. #akp (candidate) mp, halil i. yıldız, had been to shop of victim, esvet şenyaşar, before. they had words about elections. şenyaşar had shop since 20+ years, everybody knew he voted #hdp but hadn't been active for party since long.
şenyaşar told #akp's yıldız 'you are not getting a vote from here', yıldız apparently got angry but şenyaşar said: 'what are you going to do about it?' the rest is history. bbc turkey has a story with eye witnesses. bbc.com/turkce/haberle… #suruç
but this isn't all. i heard some stuff already yesterday but didn't share because it was vague, unsure, i didn't know what to think of it so since i'm a journalist, i didn't tweet it, not to incite anything with possibly wrong information. #suruç
father and son şenyaşar were taken to hospital, turkish physician association confirms what was claimed yesterday: attack continued in #hospital. staff & police couldn't do anything. two of the victims were murdered in hospital. 'the hospital has a security vulnerability.' #suruç
the security #cameras in #suruç state hospital have been #destroyed. so, this is another multiple #murder in #turkey that will not be solved. or, actually, like in so many cases: the murderer is known but he/they will get away with it. what else is new?
some journalists are saying about these #suruç murders that which version of the truth is true is a matter of believe. i can't get over this. do better for your readers. don't leave them in the dark about #akp's true nature. it has become #maffia.
'but you cant write that as a correspondent, #akp will throw you out!' let them throw you out. what's the use of staying in #turkey as a #journalist if you can't write what's really happening? for which stories do you stay?
i thought about this a lot. you don't need a correspondent to publish proper stories about a country, especially in a dictatorship. build a local network, gather other experts, cooperate and you'll have better stories than one suppressed correspondent can ever make. #journalism
