1/6 Six charts from today's National Accounts update...

In terms of overall growth, the UK has done OK by OECD standards in the post-crisis decade. But there has been a marked slowdown over the last five quarters
2/6

Adjusting for population growth, the UK's relative performance is more subdued, with a recent slowdown again evident
3/6

Putting the UK's post-crisis performance into context, we've now had 46 consecutive quarters (12 years) annual growth in GDP per capita below the pre-crisis (1956-2008) average
4/6

Again for context, that means GDP per capita is just 2.9% above its pre-crisis peak nearly 10 years on. At the same point after the 1980 and 1990 recessions, GDP per capita was up 27.2% and 21.5% respectively
5/6

In terms of what that means for living standards, we've had a remarkable decade-long pause in growth of disposable income per person. There was a partial recovery in 2015, but annual growth has been negative in each of the last six quarters
6/6

Finally, comparing this period with income growth following the 1980 and 1990 recessions, the picture is again a sorry one. Real income person is up just 2.2% this time around, compared with growth of 31% and 28% in the earlier periods
