Thread on some preliminary findings from the #FamiliesBelongTogetherMarch yesterday in DC 🧵
Like other marches in #TheResistance, the #FamiliesBelongTogetherMarch turned a crowd that predominantly female (70%) and highly educated (84% held a BA or higher).
Only the #WomensMarch2017 was more educated
For a highly educated crowd, it was pretty diverse: 70% was White, 7% Black, 9% Latino and 5% multi-racial
The most interesting finding, IMO, is that there were VERY FEW first time protesters at the rally (9%)--which is the lowest number I've recorded at any event since #TheResistance began. Only 7% reported not participating in a #protest in 5 years.
Organizing a large #protest in 12 days requires #organizations to mobilize their members to turn out, many of whom have been engaged already. 31% of the crowd reported being a member of a group that was in the coalition that organized the event. (/end for now)
