Setting aside the SUBSTANTIAL ethical concerns around the man himself, I find Trump's policies to be a combination of foolish and actively malicious, on such a scale that I could not fit the problems in a dozen tweets. So I'll pick one - it is an overt pay to play administration
That is to say, numerous positions of authority have been given to people who have given a lot of money and who stand to make even more money from those positions, with no consideration of expertise or past experience.
This does not seem a particularly debatable point, though I'm sure there are some who would. That's fine, because they kind of illustrate a point - while this behavior is terrible, and I will ABSOLUTELY vote to end it, it was by no means *surprising*.
So we end up with a couple of buckets:
1. People who are ok with this/think it's not that bad
2. People who aren't ok with this, but are shocked, SHOCKED that it happened
3. #1s pretending to be #2s
4. People who aren't OK with this
5.People who don't care
The 1s and 3s are never going to vote against Trump, though the 3s are quite happy to pretend they might if we acquiesced to their demands. The 5s are always in play, but that's its own topic. So long as the 4s don't all kill each other, they'll largely vote blue.
So what about the 2s? The people who are *surprised* at this?

There's an instinct to think "those votes can be turned, now that they have seen the truth" and it's a DUMB INSTINCT.

When someone is conned, they are going to be strongest defender of the con man.
They have incentive to spin the story in such a way that they weren't fooled, and that self-interest is going to override any pithy strategy you might have for reaching out to them.

Obviously, individual exceptions will be more nuanced, but as a whole, that bloc ain't moving.
And that's perfectly normal. How they will *act* is their business. If they're genuinely upset, expect it to show up in turnout results. But *calling* on them to switch sides is going to be a dead end. Fooled or not, they probably don't like the Dems much.
This is just one issue. Actual decisions will be made on many issues, but I think that if you re-run this experiment with whatever issues matter to you, the pattern will remain about the same.
It's going to be about turnout (and fraud), not defection or "civility".

Now, that's just my take. Not a psychic. But I have noticed that those arguing otherwise sure seem to be ones who benefit most from that argument happening.

Probably just a coincidence, though.
This is not an argument against talking with people you know. Not because you might possibly "Sway them to the right side", but because if they're human beings you care about, human contact is a good thing and fuels empathy.

But if you need to not talk to them? Do what you need.
Additional tip - The actual 2s don't want to talk about it.

The ones who are going "OH WOE IS ME, I WOULD CHANGE MY VOTE IF ONLY YOU WERE NICER TO ME" are 3s, and the fact that they're attempting to apply PUA strategies to politics nauseates me on several levels.
