Tory backbench letter on red lines “we will not accept”
- “remaining part of a CU or other similar entity”
- jurisdiction of ECJ in any form beyond transition
- any extension to A50
- any extension of transition
@andreajenkyns says need to ensure “British people ar not sold out”
And the other wing of the Conservatives hits back immediately:

rather difficult for any signatory to this letter with 8 red lines that “we will not accept” to subsequently make arguments along the lines of “we should do nothing to bind the hands of the PM”
Interestingly - Rees-Mogg did not sign the @Andreajenkyns letter - not a European Research Group thing - though she did read it out at the meeting last week, they didn’t formally back it
Though that doesn’t mean ERG declined to back it, nor were asked to back it, but it’s not an ERG letter & JRM didn’t sign it, so I’m currently trying to establish who else did sign it behind the redacted names, apart from Midd S MP Simon Clarke
Andrea Jenkyns got in touch - its 33 Tory MPs, one DUP, and one Lord. It was designed as a private letter, that is why she redacted the names, says there are 3 ex-ministers some new 2017 intake. Wasnt ERG because it was designed to be cross party.
