A Call to the Leaders of the Democratic Party:

2/By not making impeachment the core issue in the upcoming midterms the dem leadership is, once again, allowing the Republicans to control the conversation; they are playing defense instead of offense. But worse,they are inadvertently conferring legitimacy on this rogue president
3/ And, even worse, by refusing to acknowledge what we all know to be true, that Trump is a criminal at best and a traitor at worst, the dems are failing to hold the Republicans responsible for the daily violation of their oath of office- to protect and defend our Constitution
4/By not forcefully calling Trump out for who and what he is the dem leadership is letting the Republicans get away with aiding and abetting a criminal enterprise. Because, make no mistake, if not for the Republican majority in Congress shielding him, there would be no Pres.Trump
5/The dem refusal to hold Trump and his enablers accountable now, on a daily basis, is a violation of their oath; by not vociferously calling for the impeachment of this president the dems, too, are playing politics with our Constitution. There is only one principled stance. . .
6/ you are either upholding the checks and balances embedded in our Constitution, the very oversight meant to protect us from a tyrannical executive, or, by allowing those checks to be ignored, you are complicit with the forces bent on destroying our democracy.
7/ The dem leadership has a sworn duty to hold the Republicans and this President accountable for their daily assaults on our Constitution. This is a fundamental duty of their office, and their failure to fulfill this mandate has brought us to the precipice of autocracy.
8/ Make no mistake, decades of dereliction has brought us to this point. Congress has ceded its power to a unitary executive bit by bit, setting the stage for an authoritarian ideologue to rise to power unchecked by political parties corrupted by dark money donors and super pacs
9/ this is a pivotal moment in our democracy. The democratic leadership must recognize its obligation to put principle over politics and uphold the mandates of our Constitution.I would argue that their failure to do so during the 2016 campaign was an egregious dereliction of duty
10/ We must not allow this to happen again. The Dem leadership must reaffirm their commitment to the checks and balances that protect us from tyranny.They must hold the Republicans to account for their failure to check this president and they must call for Trump’s impeachment
11/ anything less is not only a violation of their oath it is an egregious failure to protect and defend the very tenets of our democracy. This principled stance focuses us on the fundamental issues at stake in the upcoming elections-it is a referendum on who we are as a nation

14/ The Democratic Leadership must respect the wisdom of the Founding Fathers and heed the warning enshrined in our system of checks and balances. They must give voice to the ideals our forebears died for; must live by the values we cherish; they must fight for us all.
