So, I noticed this gravestone for five-term U.S. Senator, Furnifold McLendel Simmons, in New Bern, NC on Thursday, and made a mental note to look into what made him so popular with North Carolinians.
Oh my God.
northcarolinahistory.org/encyclopedia/f… A half a century, huh? So, at some point in time near the passage of the Civil Rights Act?

The parties have flipped, but Furnifold’s legacy of disenfranchisement and gerrymandering are alive and well in North Carolina.
