Back in the day—thirty years ago—I swear someone wrote in a (positive) review of the movie “Barfly” that they couldn’t help but see it as an adjective, “barf-ly,” and I think of that every time I feel nauseated.
I would have sworn on a stack of Bibles that it was in the Roger Ebert review, but I googled and don’t see that. Maybe it was barf-ly in the Berenstain universe where I come from.
...... yes, I was reading movie reviews in the paper as a kid. I was very unimpressed with his opinion of Labyrinth.
