Sad to see people that call themselves “madridistas” make a biased thread based on comments by Calderon (had to step down bc he was guilty of rigging his election process) and biased journalists like Balague. The CR saga is painful for many fans, but it needs the truth.👇🏻
In the summer of 2008, after winning the UCL it was Cristiano’s dream to play for RM. ManU didn’t want to sell him but he insisted in his desire to leave. Negotiations started with Calderon & Mendes, but Calderon didn’t want to pay what would be a world record transfer above 90m.
So he tried to include Robinho as part of the operation to lower the total amount in the deal.
Robinho was upset, asked to leave, and ended up in ManCity while the CR deal was put on hold. An agreement was signed stating that ManU would let him leave for 96m (he asked to leave)
This type of agreement was similar to the one RM had with David de Gea a few years ago, where the player sets a release clause with RM, and can only be executed for a period of time. The club can back out and compensate the player in case the deal fails.
Summer 2009:FP wins elections by a record margin, and socios are eager to welcome him after Calderon left the club with poor management, an average squad and constant failures in Europe.
Perez immediately bought CR for 96M as the head of the new project along with Kaka.
RM had lost too many UEFA points and wasn’t a top seed for the group stages in UCL to start that 09/10 season. Florentino signed another 6 players in what has become one of the greatest transfer windows in memory. Naturally relationships were great, even though the season wasn’t.
With the signing of Mourinho, CR’s place was solidified as the undisputed leader of the project. Mou built a team around him, with a fast-transition style that would benefit his strengths.
In the beginning of the 12/13 season, after the disappointment of the UCL and Euros,
CR says “I’m sad and the club knows why.” Florentino has a policy of only renewing players’ contract when they have one year left; CR at the time had 3 years left. However FP knew CR’s performances and professionalism were worth it, and a salary raise was announced.
CR matured under Ancelotti and there was a good FP-CR relationship aided by achievements (La Decima and 2 BdO).
Cr shows discontent publicly in 2014 when Di Maria leaves, and then when Ancelotti is sacked (after we fail to win a major trophy and FCB wins the treble)
The atmosphere with Benitez was terrible for players and club alike. Some players like Kroos and CR were talking to their agents to ponder possible exits. Zidane arrived and calmed the big names andLa Undécima changed the atmosphere entirely.
In the summer of 2016, with ZIdane, the UCL, Euro and BdO, CR is as happy as he could be, he said in an interview that he would “love to retire at Real Madrid at 41 years old”
Later in November his 2nd renovation was announced. He would earn 21m after tax until 2021 (he would end his career at RM at 36 years old). Both parties were happy. He said: “I want to thank the President bc he has memory” he was having a bad start but RM was confident in him.
In 2017, his situation changed dramatically when he was accused by Spanish authorities of tax fraud worth 14.7m. Keep in mind Cristiano doesn’t do his taxes by himself, Gestifute (Mendes’ company) handled all his tax matters, and had multiple of clients convicted of tax fraud
Among those clients (declared guilty) are: Mourinho, Di Maria, Coentrao, Marcelo and Cristiano. All clients normalized their situation and some like Marcelo left Mendes for a new agent.
Here comes the main issue: CR felt the authorities were being unfair. He claimed innocence
He expected the club to act like FCB did a few years before to intercede in his behalf and raise his salary, so he could pay any fine without losing money since he felt he was being treated unfairly.
Mendes and Cr started pressuring the club to let him leave with the help of their journalists/friends like A Bola, Edu Aguirre, etc. In the end, CR stayed because no offer came and the club was calm that he would solve his tax fraud case and change his mind about staying in Spain
While his professionalism is never questioned, CR along with Mendes leaked information to make his discontent with the club (and Spain) public.
In Kiev, 15 minutes after FT, he tells the interviewer “fue muy bonito jugar en el Madrid” He had made his mind about leaving
Finally, Florentino agreed to give him the 30m he asked for. But Cristiano had made up his mind bc of a fiscal difference. While in Spain he pay around 20% of everything he earns in image rights (right now close to 15m), in Italy he will only have to pay 100k despite his earnings
Florentino as a sign of respect for Cristiano, accepted his request and lowered his price tag to 100m.
Florentino cherished Cristiano and treated him like the BEST player in the world for as long as he was here

Real Madrid is forever grateful, but also moving onto a new chapter.
