It's time to acknowledge what @leahmcelrath and @AndreaChalupa and @sarahkendzior have had to say.

It's time to go back and re-read what they have been telling us. They have been talking us (@Amy_Siskind as well) what has been happening to our nation.

In real time.
I said to go back and re-read @leahmcelrath @AndreaChalupa and @sarahkendzior. @Amy_Siskind also has a book you can work through and annotate.
Let me suggest a place to start, for those who (like me) expect things to get even more stressful in the days to come.

/1
Start with @sarahkendzior and her article from Nov 18, 2016.
thecorrespondent.com/5696/were-head…
"How to be your own light in the age of Trump."

She describes what the coming of authoritarianism looks like.
She describes how to live in -- and against -- these times.

/2
She says to write down the "light" you live by, before you are asked to give up that light.
1. your values, standards.
2. your dreams, your hopes.
3. the story of your ancestors.
4. your own biography.
5. things you would never do.
6 things you would never believe.

/3
Read the article.
She spells out the 6 sections in more detail.

If you haven't done this before, do it now. Write it down.
Really.
Take out a pad of paper now, go sit on a park bench, and write it down.
I did -- and I learned things about myself.

/4
#4 showed me that -- in my life and world -- more changed from '64-'69 (age 15-20) than I had remembered.
#3 connected me back to my immigrant ancestors.
#1 and #2 connected me back to to changes and decisions made in the '60s, still alive today.

/5
As she says: "Never lose sight of who you are, what you value. If you find yourself doing something that feels questionable ... find that essay ...on who you are and read it. Ask if that version of yourself would have done the same thing. And if the answer is no? Don’t do it."

/6
My essay on "being my own light" will not be the same as yours. But we can put them together and learn from and be guided by other people's lights.

I am looking with dread at the months to come. I do not expect the Trump regime to go down easy, without a fight.

I have no way of knowing what the fight will be like.
But -- because of @sarahkendzior's article -- I have a clearer idea of where I stand.

/8
So, once again, I thank @sarahkendzior, @leahmcelrath, @AndreaChalupa, @Amy_Siskind . . . and Dietrich Bonhoeffer . . . who have kept the lights on up to this point. I dread the months to come.

But I am hopeful for what comes.
