THREAD ABOUT LIFE.
This is my wife with Presidents @BillClinton and Bush. We’re now back from an incredible few days in Little Rock for her @PLSprogram program. Highlights included talking to President Bush about his Mom, and the total madness of
Cori being seated next to W. for dinner. More important, in this time of massive political divisiveness, perhaps my favorite part was watching these two men — from opposite sides — find common ground, laughing, sharing, and being open and honest about their hardest days and
greatest regrets. As they pointed out, it is far easier to see our enemies as two-dimensional villains, rather than three-dimensional people. (I’m saying this especially to all the people who will write comments below about how they hate Clinton or Bush or Iraq or
impeachment. You need to hear this most.) Civility and decency are a choice. Forgiveness is a choice. It is a mark of good leadership (like looking at yourself rather than pointing fingers and blaming everyone else). Indeed, I was blown away listening to Clinton tell the story
about how hard it was for them to find friendship after W. watched Clinton beat his father. That was some personal venom they went through. But these two found peace — because they chose to find peace. Again, 3D > 2D. Decency > pointing fingers. As President Bush told us:
Our system is only as good as the willingness of good people to run. And as President Clinton said, when you lose an election: You have to decide: What can you fix? And what will you let go? That’s not just political advice; it’s life advice. I choose to see hope —
because I believe most people are tired of our current divisiveness. With that said, I’m taking a break from social media for the rest of the summer. I want more talking in my life, less posting. Love you all. See you at the end of the summer. Go swim. Spread #kindness.
