I'm tired of the voting age being 18. Lower it already! #16tovote
Parents can't represent their teens at the ballot box. They can only represent themselves. Teens are separate people with separate interests that must be able to represent their own selves. #16tovote
We've got teens campaigning for sensible gun legislation and ethical immigration policies and better environmental protection and everything in between. Let them VOTE! #16tovote
Takoma Park has done it. Hyattsville has done it. Greenbelt has done it. Many more have tried and are currently considering it. Let's lower the voting age in every town and every state and the whole country! #16tovote
Teens deserve better than to be objectified, diminished, and scapegoated in most political discourse. They must be an active part of it. They must be recognized as full citizens. #16tovote
And what is anyone afraid of? That we might have some incompetent treasonous celebrity in the White House? Or might we have President Hillary Clinton and be sighing with nervous relief at the big orange bullet we dodged in 2016 thanks to the youth vote? #16tovote
Lowering the voting age is important regardless of how teens would vote. They are of course individuals like the rest of us. They contribute to our society so much more than they get credit for. Our elected officials should be accountable to them. #16tovote
We can't keep allowing seemingly common sense policies that blame and restrict young people to be passed, as these distract from tackling social problems in any real way. Wouldn't as easily be able to do this if teens could vote. #16tovote
Without the vote, teens cannot defend themselves at the ballot box from policies that restrict their ever dwindling rights. #16tovote
In most places teens can't even vote for school board, when they're the ones going to the school. They have less say than local adults who have no kids in or any other connection to the school. What sense does that make? #16tovote
It's not even that voting rights for teens is the most important issue. That's debatable. But everything else manages to link back to it, and without the vote the cause for youth rights can only go so far. #16tovote
And don't even try to tell me teens aren't "mature enough" to vote. If we're (wrongly!) making a 3-year-old represent himself at an immigration hearing, don't tell me a 16-year-old can't pick her governor. #16tovote
Certainly don't try to say teen brains aren't developed enough for voting. First of all, that doesn't mean anything. But mostly, mental health and brain physiology shouldn't determine one's fitness to vote. That's ableism. #16tovote
Definitely don't try to say teens shouldn't vote because their parents would make them vote a certain way. For one, funny how parental coercion matters all of a sudden. When withholding rights from teens is seen as the solution. #16tovote
