Quick thread here on Alaska and liberal condescension. So this lady from New Jersey, an environmental activist, thinks she's going to unseat Rep. Don Young, the longest-serving member EVER of the US House, without ever setting foot in Alaska. 1/
2/ As an Alaskan, let me just say that the idea is so absurd and insulting that it's just straight-up self parody on this woman's part. Among Alaskans, Don Young is known for his loyalty to his state and his fellow Alaskans.
3/ It's well known that he cancels appointments with lobbyists and DC power-brokers to meet with his constituents, not because they're powerful or wealthy, but because they're Alaskans.
4/ Young was first elected in 1973, largely as a result of his leadership in the fight to build the trans-Alaska oil pipeline, which is the basis for Alaska's economy and the font of its property over the past 40 years.
5/ Now comes this woman from NJ, who has never been to Alaska but is convinced she knows what's best for its residents. No doubt she wants to put an end to oil and gas development, which would impoverish much of the state.
6/ But the well-being of Alaskan families is not her primary concern. As a liberal Democrat and an environmentalist, she no doubt knows what's best for Alaska. She doesn't even need to visit the state to know!
7/ Which perfectly encapsulates the condescending, paternalistic attitude of many on the Left. She even said, "You ought to be thankful that I care enough and I'm interested enough and passionate enough to want to make things better."
8/ Hillary Clinton couldn't have said it better.
9/ NB: Should have said Young is the longest ever Rep from Alaska, and the longest serving *current* member of the US House. Young is currently the 12th-longest serving member of all time. (h/t @NathanWurtzel)
