@PbaxterPeter @f_grovewhite Let’s think. 1) leavers haven’t come up with a plan. 2) we were told by the PM that we were “citizens of nowhere” and that our views didn’t count 3) a narrow victory was taken as a landslide 1/?
@PbaxterPeter @f_grovewhite 4) a one question advisory poll became a mandate for state control of migration, pulling out of the single market, euratom, open skies, europol, the customs union, and dozens more, adding thousands of bureaucrats to the state payroll 2/?
@PbaxterPeter @f_grovewhite 5) the government tried to assume absolute power to decide without parliament 6) parliament then supinely voted to avoid scrutiny of future trade bills 7) 3 million EU citizens were described as “bargaining chips” 3/?
@PbaxterPeter @f_grovewhite 8) there’s still no plan 9) our judges were described as “enemies of the people for doing their jobs 10) our parliament voted to give ministers unprecedented powers 11) whenever legitimate questions were asked leavers described us as remaining; catchy but crude and insulting 4/?
@PbaxterPeter @f_grovewhite 12) MP’s scrutising minsiters were described as “mutineers”, 13) a government minister asked universities to report what they were teaching about brexit - sinister 14) there’s still no plan 15) Sterling tanked, costing us all more when buying essentials like food 5/?
@PbaxterPeter @f_grovewhite 16) inflation rose, costing each family about £1k a year 17) did I mention there’s still no plan? 18) the government added £60bn to borrowing and - £3bn brexit preparation fund - didn’t see that on the bus? 6/?
@PbaxterPeter @f_grovewhite 19) there’s been a marked rise in hate crime as racists have been empowered by the leave campaign(s) crude anti-refugee, and anti-migrant slogans 20) there’s still no plan 21) the government’s own dexeu dept data shows that in any brexit scenario we will be worse off 7/?
@PbaxterPeter @f_grovewhite 22) The US govt has effectively attacked the WTO system, attacked any country or trading entity with which it runs a deficit (guess what we do?) and has started a global trade war - meaning we are leaving in the least benign environment 7/?
@PbaxterPeter @f_grovewhite 23) the us govt has also undermined nato and cuddled up to a state which has poisoned at least 5 people in Britain in the past few years 24) there’s still no plan 25) most people who advocate leaving on wto terms don’t seem to understand what that means 8/?
@PbaxterPeter @f_grovewhite 26) our rights are being taken away; to live, work, study and retire in 28 other countries, 27) Farmers are already suffering labour shortages 28) industry is suffering skills shortages 29) there’s no plan 9/?
@PbaxterPeter @f_grovewhite 30) in short, there’s nothing for me to “get behind” because all leavers have produced for two years is childish abuse, vacuous slogans, and the aggregation of power to the least competent government of my lifetime. #brexit #brexitchaos #brexitshambles 10/end
@PbaxterPeter @f_grovewhite Oh forgot to add that our economy slid from the best performing to the worst in both G7 and EU, that another £60bn was pumped in via QE, and that fdi has dropped significantly since 2016. But you knew all that already - just part of the price of believing #brexit #brexitchaos
