The original series has super uneven animation, which should be obvious from this thread, but when it is at its best the animation is remarkable for tv in any age, and especially for 1982

the goal of animated sci-fi UI is to communicate a story beat clearly while also appearing to be more complicated

sometimes sci-fi UI is just a bunch of beautiful moving garbage

Do You Remember Love? has my favorite match cut of all time: a small automated doll cuts to a wide shot of the giant robot housing the remainder of humanity — tying together the intimate scale of the protagonists’ melodrama with the cosmic-scale stakes

There is so much going on in this, but it is super readable even if you don’t catch the details

unless the text is MASSIVE (like in that "READY" shot earlier), words are pretty much useless in fictional UI. Color changes are the most useful thing is conveying a change in emotions
