You know what freaks out most Russians about American politics? The sheer anti-intellectualism of the public discourse. Not only people don't know the basics of other cultures, but they aren't even aware of their ignorance and actually *refuse* to learn. That's unimaginable here.
Case in point: this tweet is still up:
Ridiculing American ignorance is a common TV trope. There is a whole genre of state-sponsored trolling where "prankers" with an impressive phone book call a U.S. senator and inquire them about non-existent countries and U.S. policy towards them, engaging in absurd dialogues.
But, of course, I'm blessed to know the many wonderful exceptions to this stereotype and it wasn't my intention to offend any of you.
