This new research from Robb Willer and Rachel Wetts also shows how many white Americans are so drunk on anti-black and brown animus that they will oppose welfare and other assistance programs even if white folks--the group that benefits the most--will be hurt.
There is another reality at work here. White America loves welfare for itself but not for anyone else. The United States from before the Founding to the present was built on white welfare programs. Land theft, slavery, and then the post WW2 middle class are white welfare.
Today's present "submerged state" of subsidies, tax cuts, cash payments and the like are another example of white welfare in action as well.
President Johnson is proven correct again. “If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.”
