I'm going to start talking about adult books and adult authors the way people talk about YA books and YA authors. ie. This book is really good--FOR AN ADULT BOOK.
Or... you can tell this author used to write adult because so many of the characters angst about aging and lagging careers.
Or... Don't let the fact this this is an adult book put you off! It's actually pretty good!
Or... this author is only writing adult because that's where the money is.
Or... hey, you're a pretty good writer. Have you considered writing real books in YA?
Or... Yeah, I cast an award ballot but only for the Norton. I'm just not into adult books.
Sure, you hit the NYT list, but it was just for an adult book, right?
I'll end by saying I'm proud to write YA. And I'm proud to write adult. They are *marketing categories* and any disdain/contempt toward one or the other is based on artificial boundaries and personal prejudices. Write on, folks!
