The second half of September will have a lot of interesting Hindi movie releases at the same time.

The one I am most looking forward to is Nandita Das' Manto. Has Nawaz playing the title role. If you liked reading Manto's stories you can't miss it.

Then there's Vishal Bhardwaj's Pataakha. After a long time VB is again going back to adapting an old story. Charan Singh Pathik's 'Do Behne' this time.

Sharat Katariya's Sui Dhaaga looks interesting. His Dum Laga Ke Haisha was fantastic. Hoping for equally good music.

There's also Batti Gul Meter Chaalu which I find interesting just coz of the dialect. Is "thehra" an excessively used word in Uttarakhand or is this a completely new dialect made for the film by the writer?

The Curious Case of PC Jewellers' Trade Receivables (Thread)

Disclosure - No position in PCJ stock or derivative.
PCJ announced its Q1 FY19 results last week. In its mgmt ppt, it also disclosed partial BS information. The info showed that PCJ had reduced its total outstanding debt by over 400 crs. However, what the company didn't disclose is far more interesting than what it did disclose.
The company didn't provide its Receivables number for the Q end. Not in the ppt neither in response to analyst queries in the results concall. However, since the company has provided partial BS info it is possible to estimate what might have happened to the receivables this Q.

We wrote about Manpasand in Dec 2016 and haven’t written another “Curious Case” piece since then. That’s not because there weren’t enough candidates but just that the way some big guys in the ecosystem responded, scared us a bit.

This is a thread about one such Big Guy.
We published the Manpasand note in the evening and thought maybe a 1000 people would read it (which had been the case for our earlier Kitex and JD note). However, for some reason the note went viral and our site crashed.

We got the site up and went to sleep as our job was done.
The next morning the stock opened 12% down. We were quite happy as we felt investors had taken note of our findings. But then the Big Guy hit us with a nasty rebuttal. Read the entire note below.

On March 1st in BQ interview, Sabu says Q4 will exceed 9m FY18 Rev growth and PBT margins. Basically, Rev guidance of 200 cr+ and PBT of 45 cr+. Actual Q4 Rev of 131 cr and PBT of 12 cr!!!

A recurring issue.

Intelligent fanatic less. Serial liar more.

I got a copy when it came out but went ahead and got more when the book came out. I've seen these plays live and they're breathtaking and I love them and in honor of this sale I'm going to go off for a while with a list of Mormon Lit recommendations and reasons I like each.
I'll start with these plays. @mel_leilani's films (Freetown and Jane & Emma) are more widely known and are both important milestones in Mormon cinema. But Mel is at her very best writing for the intimacy of the stage.

The Evidence Obtained Outside Cameras will not show any evidence of ‘tempering’ but other than license plates of dozens of diplomatic cars (Many with tinted windows-large trunks) with related time stamp, drivers Info, model/year: Nothing.
#Turkish Intel-Investigative Bodies also have the list of all Diplomatic & Private Saudi & “other significant’ Planes in #Turkey for the period of ‘interest.’ Many of the Target airports have their own security cameras & related evidence.

Before I get into it, a little backstory:

Some of you may have seen this movie before. Its not on cable often, so it's probably been years. It was released in 2005, right when the Iraq war was going all to hell.

The allegory between the Crusades and the Iraq war weren't subtle.
The thing about this movie is that a lot of people felt it was just okay-to-good.

They felt that way because what was released in theaters was so heavily chopped up by the studio the character motivations made little to no sense.

The director's cut fixes all of that and more.

One problem that seems common on the right and left is aversion to valid criticism of arguments. Many people seem less interested in finding truth than they are looking for reinforcement of their world views. This environment is very exhausting, and it's damaging to our republic.
The difference between the republican party and the democratic party on the issue of racism depends upon which party the south selects to run on. The logical error people make is assuming that because the south selects one party, all people in that party must be racist by def..
Republicans like @TomNichols who have to deal with many of these political realities and hedge these kinds of problems are misunderstood, and if I'm honest, they are sometimes mistreated by liberals. This creates hostilities that makes a republic like ours very difficult to run.

1/ Manu (The progenitor of Humankind)
All different races of Mankind are derived from Manu and Shradha. The current Manu is Vaivasvata Manu.
2/ The word Manu literary means man but it is a title given to the progenitor of mankind. According to Hindu Puranas there are many kalpas (One day of Lord Brahma the creator) and each Kalpa has 14 manvantara and each manvatara has one manu. So basically each Kalpa has 14 Manus.
3/ The current manu of the present manvantara is Shraddhadeva or Vaivasvata Manu of this current Kalpa. He is the son of Vivasvat (Probably Surya) and is therefore also known as Manu-vaivasvata.
