1) Just thinking aloud on Twitter: I just saw a long-time acquaintance’s post on FB. (We members of a digital art community). I knew she’d lost a teenager some time ago to OD.
2) She never wrote much about that loss, and we’re 12 timezones or more apart, and I didn’t pry.
3) Recently, she wrote at length about her painful loss. And she mentions that her child was not able to get proper medical treatment because of ACA. Well shebused the O’care term.
4) She’s not interested in politics, on FB at least, so that paragraph in which she expressed her despair at how worthless the medicare system was to her child, stood out.
5) It was just a passing reference in a very long post, but she knew how she was going to vote in the Nov elections. I can’t hold it against her.
6) Again, she was not emphasising the politics nor the medicare system. Her very long post was perhaps carthartic, with pent up grief and dismay suddenly pouring out as words, after so long.
7) So it set me thinking that many personal stories of how individuals are affected by whatever systems have been put in place, need to be heard above the usual politicised noise.
3) It really is great that social media helps keep people connected to feelings and ideas and thoughts, but so often, messages are drowned out as well.
9) More grassroots stories without the politicising would really help to give the wider world a better understanding of how individuals and families are affected by government policies.
10) I messed up my number of my tweet between 7 and 9.
11) So, more signal, less noise. In the end, people’s hearts matter.
