If you are starting a new business, plan to start one or have run one without making much headway, what should you do?

I wish someone shared what I'll tweet in this thread with me. It'd have saved me years of frustration and pain.

Enjoy below.
in 2003, a Year 2 student, I dabbled into business. I was a student in University, no money and no experience. Over the next 4 years,I had breezed through maybe 6 different businesses.

it didn't help that I had no direction. It helped worse that I'd rather Play PS2 instead of...
work on my different businesses.

Anyway, by 2007,I had started a phone call centre,a cassava farm, a poultry farm, a sticker business (via NANS), a computer shop.

Of the lot, the only the computer shop made decent money.

I then proceeded to spend any money it made like a fool
Maybe they failed because I wasn't committed, or I didn't like them, I was just doing them for the money. The only thing I did that I saw a promise in was the internet thing. From 1998 when I started browsing,I saw that people were using the internet to make a lot of money and...
I wanted to do the same. But it was hard. Again, no direction, no mentor, no money.

By 2008, I decided to go for broke. And 10 years on, everything is different. I finally figured this business thing out.

As a consequence of sharing my successes & teaching others, I receive...
thousands of emails, DMs/PMs on a daily basis, etc. from newbies/beginner/gurus, etc. asking for advice or help.

So let me share with you what you too should do when you get started or starting. There's really no secret, but if you're getting started, focus on these 5 things.
1. Choose a business model/idea that is scalable and make money.

Scalable means you can sell it to as many people as possible and you can reach them easily.

It's easier. You're not limited by location or by time.

Many people run businesses that will never make them money...
let alone rich. I see it on twitter everyday and I just SMH. It's no wonder why they struggle. They have merely given themselves a job.

What kind of business models/ideas?

I dont like recommending as these things depend on personality but anything you can run online is a charm.
2. Find a Expert of your Model & Pay Them to Learn What they Know.

I like self education and you should do it, but if you want speed, find someone who is really good at what you want to do and either buy their course of they have one or pay for consultation or go work for them.
Now understand: many info sellers simply make money selling products and don't actually use the methods they talk about.

Their stats mean nothing. Their testimonials are often from friends who mutually backslap each other. Those mean nothing either.

They don't give a rat's...
roasted buttocks if you make money with what you buy from them or not. They are scum but heck that's the way of the world sometimes.

So do your research. Ask questions. Be certain before you send anyone money for info you want to learn, that includes me.

Don't come here crying
3. Don't buy Every Training or Book You See.

Many people have made their hard drives a burial ground for training and courses and e-books, etc.

Once in a while everyone falls into this trap and it leads to information overload.

Here's an advice: DELETE IT ALL.

You won't die.
Okay, don't be that extreme but I am making a point. You do not NEED to learn from every guru/expert out there.

Find someone you resonate with in the field you have chosen and buy their stuff, then ignore most of everything else.

For example, I don't jive with Brian Tracy...
or Jay Abraham. I find their material tedious, so I don't bother.

It doesn't mean they aren't excellent at what they do, they are. It's just I don't need to also study them to get the results I am after. I get it with others regardless.

This will save you time, effort and money
4. Focus, focus, focus

I wish someone drummed this into my head and forced me under pain of death to adhere to it when I started. THIS IS CRUCIAL. Focus on only 1 business model. It could be eCommerce,Social media, web apps, software, etc.

Whatever it is, choose one and go deep.
That thing they say about a "jack of all trades & a master of none"? Its true. Dont fool yourself thinking you're smart enough to do it all at the same time, you cant. The man who chases 2 rabbits at once catches none.

Focus long enough & your grasp of the theory will be strong.
Take copious notes and streamline them until you have a blueprint that's detailed enough for Tom Cruise to use in the next Mission Impossible.

If one day you're reading about Ecommerce, next day it's about software apps and the next day it's YouTube... you won't get anywhere.
If you don't have enough money, focus on what you can do with your limited means.

And if you work at a job, don't worry about firing your boss just yet.

You can always come back anytime later and give him a Taekwondo Naeryeo Chagi (Axe Kick), once you're actually making money.
5. You must DO DO DO!

You can't learn painting by holding a brush and stand smiling at the world, holding up your brush so they can see you're a painter. You learn painting when you pick up a brush, get an easel, get paints and start painting, no matter how bad you are at first.
