I bet many, many businesses in Dublin are likewise frustrated with how ridiculous the housing situation is. A growing city needs housing, and an oversupply of it if anything.
But there's the "free market" ideology of FG + too many people benefitting from soaring rents. The city suffers as a result - on the spectrum of outright homelessness -> to say, young people starting in a job who hand over half their net salary in rent. The city is broken.
If the government is not very very careful, housing will be the hill they die on. And it will be deserved.
For the record, I support any protest occupation of vacant, derelict or unused property to highlight the inaction of the State. And how about measures to prevent developers buying land, getting planning, then waiting and selling without a brick laid, basically land hoarding?
This is going on years now - every opportunity has been given to Gov to sort it. But they have failed, and continue to fail. It's damaging the economy, health and development of the city and country. I will happily join protest marches.
