One of the most puzzling elements in the EU position is this dogma that the single market is a single whole. Well, if it is, then neither Brussels nor member states ever respected it
There is in the EU a single market in goods but no single market in services. One example: medical prescriptions are not valid in other MS, the medicines are not the same and even, can you believe it, some medicines are commonly prescribed in a MS and banned in another!
The distortions this creates are staggering because economic activity does not distinguish between goods and services. Because health care is not integrated but trade in goods is, medicines have different prices but can be carried freely over borders
I know people who make millions carrying medicines across borders. And yet the EU tells London the integrity of the single market must be respected. It is in fact the core of the EU position
But because ignorance of how EU works is so deep in Britain, I suppose most people there actually buy the notion. The media certainly do
