A VR headset must have positional tracked heads & hand controllers ("6DOF")

It must be standalone ("untethered") without a clunky Windows PC or plug-in smartphone.

It must be frictionless and take seconds to get into VR.

It must be affordable, not $1500 (remember 2016?)
Oculus Quest delivers all of that, at an affordable price: $399. It is the iPhone of VR
But don't forget: the original iPhone did not go mainstream immediately.

It had a great featureset, sold a few million units, but it took a couple versions before the iPhone 4 sold tens and hundreds of millions:
