1/ What people don't understand about Apple's advantage in creating a world-class AR headset (versus HoloLens or MagicLeap):

Apple is shipping the core pieces of an AR headset today to hundreds of millions of users
2/ Every iPhone now has a depth sensor.

Apple will ship nearly 100 million depth sensors in 2018/2019. They have successfully miniaturized (with a low cost BOM) the fundamental sensor for inside-out positional tracking of any headmounted VR/AR device
3/ The most powerful silicon in the world. The in-house designed A12 SOC is leaps and bounds faster than any other mobile CPU/GPU. You know what's compute intensive? AR.
4/ Among the best at designing high density batteries and heat dissipation (uh... critical when strapping batteries to your eye balls 👀 #SamsungNote7)
5/ The best SDKs I've ever worked with. Seriously. ObjC, Swift, Cocoa, UIKit were so well designed. And now, Metal and ARKit are fantastic. Programmer ecosystem, documentation, and ultimately distribution (@AppStore) is key!
6/ Meanwhile, smaller companies like Microsoft and MagicLeap will struggle to miniaturize and struggle to commercialize at a reasonable price point. $3 Billion is NOT enough to build a world class AR headset

(I sincerely cheer and hope for Microsoft & MagicLeap to succeed!)
7/ Will Apple succeed? Not sure. But they have all the puzzle pieces and are poised to execute better than anyone possibly could.

This will truly be Apple's first post-Steve Jobs product and I think they will absolutely dominate.
