Little annoyances about slowly going blind - if something isn't extremely high contrast, I have a very hard time seeing it. For example, when the dog or cats puke on the light brown rug? I find it with my feet. I can't see it.
I have lost track of the amount of times my wife has said "there's puke on the rug" and I've stepped in it anyway because I can't see it. Bonus points for being barefoot when I find one of the cats 'presents'
It's also annoying when people say "hey, look at that" because, fucked if I know what they're looking at. Outside in the world everything further than twenty feet away lives in a vaseline smeared lens and I can't tell a bird from a cloud.
I don't use a cane because I CAN see well enough inside that twenty foot bubble to avoid, say, holes or cracked concrete or incoming cars. But when I take the bus, I have no idea what bus that is until it's right on top of me. And I have no idea what you're pointing at.
Another is I can't shave myself effectively. One of my eyes basically has a giant dead zone, so trying to shave the right side of my face is extremely difficult. I hate having to have someone else do it. I hate the loss of any independence, and it gets progressively worse.
Also, proofreading my own work? Nope. I was never great at it, but now, I have an extremely hard time seeing things like a misplaced comma or a letter switch typo. And I don't have the money to pay an editor to catch that for me.
