Besides the usual lapse into the lazy "Republicans pounce" framework, this frantic Democrat backpedaling from mob violence shows you which party's voters they believe were truly energized by the Kavanaugh debacle.
Further evidence: Hillary Clinton endorsing mob violence yesterday. She's ALWAYS behind the curve and a reliable instrument for measuring the opposite of what the electorate is thinking.
This is also another move in the very old game of giving Democrats an unlimited license to use emotional rhetoric and exploit the passions of their voters while intimidating Republicans into avoiding "populism" and "divisive rhetoric" and forcing them to box with kid gloves.
Republicans are systematically bullied into backing away from anything that would resonate with voters on an emotional level, no matter how logically sound the argument is. If it has the faintest tinge of "populism," the GOP must dispose of it like nuclear waste.
But Democrats just wrapped up a centrally-directed, carefully orchestrated three-week mob action against Kavanaugh and there wasn't any media hand-wringing about demonic "populism," not a single lecture about "divisive rhetoric." Odd, isn't it?
The case against Kavanaugh was purely emotional. The lack of evidence against him and the weight of legally binding statements in his favor was to be ignored. Democrats told people to go with their gut, trust their hearts, and Believe All Women (Who Accuse Republicans).
The Democrat side of this escalated into the worst kind of populist frenzy in a matter of days, precisely because Party political leadership kept doubling down on the smear. They never told their followers to calm down, think carefully, or embrace civility. Quite the reverse.
Democrat Party leadership legitimized Avenatti's garbage and every wild accusation thrown at Kavanaugh. Media ran stories without a shred of editorial judgment. Bottom-feeding media provided news hooks for big-time networks to talk about stories that didn't meet their standards.
And it was all about emotionalism, frenzy, heating up the blood of Democrat voters and triggering mob actions. Democrats think mobs are a sign of grassroots passion from the Left. They DELIBERATELY create and fund mobs to make it look like their party has passionate grassroots.
The audience for much of this theater is elected Republicans, who have a tendency to crumble when the media hits them with narratives of left-wing populist fury. GOP leaders often appear stunned when real grassroots conservatives flood their phone banks or show up at the polls.
Well, it didn't work this time, and when it failed, we heard a lot of big talk about furious Democrats flooding the polls in November to get revenge for the pyrrhic Kavanaugh victory by Republicans. The mob actions were supposed to reinforce the narrative of Blue Fury.
Republican voters, you'll recall, were supposed to roll over and go back to sleep, their bellies full after the Kavanaugh win. The passion was all going to be on the Democrat side.
It clearly isn't working out that way, and you can tell because Democrats and their media are suddenly pulling the emergency brake, slewing around 180 degrees, and claiming there aren't any left-wing mobs at all. The orchestrated protests vanished like morning dew.
And I'm not being sarcastic about using Hillary as a negative indicator. She really IS behind every political curve, because she's surrounded by sycophants and lives in an invincible information bubble. The 2016 election should stand as proof of that.
Hillary really does think the winning Dem message for November is fight-fight-fight, grab your pitchforks and take it to the streets. The consultants who can see what's really happening in close races couldn't get through to her in time to tell her the message has changed. /end
