Today’s events require us to acknowledge the societal damage done by political and media illiteracy as well as prolonged and coordinated misinformation campaigns by mainstream and/or digital media entities to further a partisan agenda.

We can’t overstate its toxicity.
Here we have a guy who has documented himself at Trump rallies for YEARS and drives a van covered in right-wing propaganda and right wingers are still refusing to accept it.

They are staring at a clear blue sky and insisting it’s orange.
The echo chambers, the fabricated and demonstrably false websites, videos, memes and articles, the shills on cable and even more dangerous hacks on streaming sites—it led to this. And they still refuse to accept that an objectively toxic product could have any side-effects.

Last night border abolitionists in Portland occupied an ICE facility, preventing ICE agents from leaving the building to go home. Around 10pm an agent attempted to leave, driving a large van. /1
Around 40 people gathered to block the van from the street. Portland's facility does not hold detained migrants overnight. People are held temporarily in cells in Portland, and ICE vans transport them to the Tacoma WA detention center, where they may stay for a long time. /2
Hence, not many ICE agents in Portland, and the ones working here have large vans.

The agent stared at blockaders with little to no expression. The crowd shouted "Are you trying to go home? Do you want to go home to your FAMILY? How HORRIBLE to be SEPARATED from your family" /3
