@NewsHour Most scientists aren’t aware that climate models only include anthropogenic factors. Is @algore ? Doesn’t mean there’s no problem, but causes are complex. Need carbon capture technology, more hydroelectric & nuclear power, yes cap & trade. 1/
I was @algore delegate 2000, supported 88. Read Costing the Earth. Research renewable materials & energy (biofuels) Will be 100 yrs b4 renewables replace carbon. 100 yrs ago oil was where renewables are now. Need end of pipe C capture, better catalysts2/
3/ Realistically, replacing C takes time. Capture & reduction end of pipe must & can be done. Cut red tape & lawsuits on nuclear plants & hydroelectric- they’re carbon free, & lawsuits & histrionics led us back to carbon, putting us where we are now. @algore
4/ New pomegranate reactor design improved nuclear safety. Chinese sci used vitrification to immobilize spent nuclear fuel. Reduces risk of leaching in storage. Technology, not command & control, will provide the solutions.
5/To develop & commercialize renewable energy & materials need symbiotic partnership btwn small innovative tech cos & large tech corporations with deep pockets & expertise to bring to market. @algore
6/Same business model has developed btwn small biotech startups & BigPharma. Beginning to happen in renewable energy. @DomEnergyVA is piloting offshore wind turbines for potential wind farms. @Exxon is developing algae based biodiesel.
7/ Sustainable ag practices can capture CO2 in soil. PLANT TREES. DEFORESTATION AS BIG A DANGER. AS burning fossil fuels. Trees forests, plants capture 50% of CO2 produced. Plant more trees. Stop the Amazonian Canal (China’s Belt/Road) Protect rain forests.
We should have had a multipronged strategy to solve the problem not just ban all fossil fuels - without knowing how long it would take to replace them with new unproven technologies.

Volatility became a market problem again in 2007 after Chris Cox revoked the old “uptick rule”put in place by FDR asJoeKennedySr said to prevent stock market from collapsing as in ‘29. Ask @jimcramer abt that story.
There are mathematical reasons to need a braking mechanism. Without it, acceleration in a downward direction can cause a stock price to collapse. I agree with Cooperman’s view. The uptick rule prevented stock market crashes for 70+ years. The individual “circuit breakers” don’t.

@Ocasio2018 We keep reading about how the extreme weather of 2017 is the "new normal" thanks to global warming — even if the weather in question is frigid air. But the data don't show any trend in extreme weather events in the U.S. for decades. Science, anyone?

@Ocasio2018 In the U.S. at least, air pollution is down since 1992 for every single pollutant the EPA measures. And our CO2 emissions are down since the mid-1990s, yet #ClimateCatastrophists claim NONE of that improvement has slowed global, or U.S. #ClimateChange.

Significant changes in land use could help reduce emissions by 35-80% by 2050. Figure 2.5 explains. Deeper cuts in emissions by 2050 require ↑↑ tree planting & peatland restoration, while the harvesting of biomass could help to displace emissions in energy & construction.

Scientists are once again warning about #climate armageddon. Thousands vetted the best science out there. More extinction, death and disease is in store if we don't act fast.

But I think we should focus on something uncomfortable: for many people, this is meaningless. /1
Let’s be clear: the IPCC report is a tour de force. Over 90 scientists spent years writing it, based on over 6,000 peer reviews. It says the planetary warming ALREADY caused “will persist for centuries to millennia.” It says we’re not acting fast enough to cut pollution. /2
The report adds to the vast global scientific consensus, based on an overwhelming body of evidence, that we’re pushing the planet into DANGEROUS and destructive warming conditions, by burning fossil fuels at industrial scales, and dumping carbon pollution into the air. /3

Just returned from Bangkok, where nations made little progress towards finalising the Paris agreement on climate change that aims to limit global temperature rises over the next 80 years.

It was my first @UN #climate change rodeo and there were a few things I wasn't aware of
Under Paris, countries agreed to a fairly detailed set of promises to keep global temperature rises under 2C by 2100.

It was the first time all nations - both developed and developing economies - signed up to the same set of climate rules. But they weren't binding
Parties gave themselves in effect 3 years to come up with a text agreed by everyone, ratified, and translated into national law on a state-by-state basis. The idea is the accord isn't legally binding, but the rulebook it provides could be on a national level
