It signposts how Policy and effective implementation can change lives.

Only 6% of doctors, 12% of chief executives and 12% of journalists today are from working-class origins.

In the housing market, owner occupation – one of the foundations for higher levels of social mobility – has fallen by 17 per cent in the last decade among the under-44s

There is enough evidence from around the world, in our country’s own history and, contemporaneously, in local areas to know that, with the right approach, the transmission of disadvantage from one generation to the next can be broken.

We must and we will break it.

But, please, as the report points out there is no need to turn the economic system upside down or give into a counsel of hopeless despair to achieve this.

Brexit will make it all so much much harder.

We have a duty to those most disadvantaged to do our best to stop it.
