1) Labour & #Brexit - thread
Quick analysis of this article by @Peston
It talks about a recent private meeting led by McDonnell and is, hopefully a sign that Labour may engage on fighting hard #brexit

But...it doesn't put Labour in a good light

2) firstly, this comment
This illustrates 2 things:
I) after months of people saying that EU membership doesn't limit Labour plans McDonnell has, only now, when #Brexit is at risk, gotten round to proving this for himself - what on earth has he been doing in the meantime?
3) ii) Labour Leadership launched this Manifesto without first checking if it was compatible with even a soft Brexit, therefore they have clearly been supporting hard #Brexit all this time, under the assumption it was needed for their plans, despite the pain it would cause
4) for months there's been ongoing discussion between remainers and Corbyn supporters with these supporters saying every time Corbyn whipped to back the Government on #Brexit
"He's biding his time, he's keeping his powder dry, he really supports soft Brexit"
Well, he wasnt
5) Corbyn & McDonnell put in place a manifesto which they assumed (wrongly) needed a hard #Brexit & have been supporting it up until now.

Which illustrates that they have been doing exactly what remainers said they were doing, and were ignorant & complacent in doing so
6) 2nd key point is here. Labour Leadership will not lead on #Brexit but will follow public opinion like a weathercock.

They won't do what they think is right, but what is most popular, and will continue to be ambiguous until other factors make #Brexit fall out of favour
7) of course none of this is a surprise to anyone who's not a Corbyn supporter but it's interesting to see it in such stark form

Labour L'ship has been quietly supporting hard #brexit because they were either too Eurosceptic or too lazy to check if the EU hindered their plans
8) and the Labour Leadership absolutely will not lead public opinion.

On the biggest issue facing the country & with an incompetent zealot driven Gov. in charge the "new, straightforward politics" will, as policy, sit on the sidelines & make ambiguous noises to avoid a position
9) we're being led by minnows, cowards & zealots on both sides who put party & ancient ambitions above the good of the UK. Surely the country deserves better
