(thread)/ Yesterday, @AbortionCare and our members showed up #onhere for a TweetStorm talking about why & how we must #EndAbortionDeception -- I didn't join from my personal account but been thinking:
2/ When I worked on an abortion clinic, nearly every day a patient would ask earnestly if they might die or become infertile, bc that's what they'd heard from so-called "pro-life" folks.
3/ Abortion is the safest medical procedure in the US. There is no impact on future fertility. Imagine claiming to respect women but actually having so little regard for them that you are willing to lie about DYING to keep someone from making a decision that's right for her.
5/ Even more importantly, these patients -- who believed the anti-choice lie that they faced the risks -- CAME TO THEIR APPOINTMENTS ANYWAY. Because they knew what was right for them.
6/ The most heartbreaking moments in that clinic were watching relief flood over patients once they realized they were safe, respected, & we believed them. They never would've had to fear otherwise.
7/ Anyway as my colleague @jmooreconrow says, "let's be cool and not lie." Accept that each person is the exact right person to make decisions about themselves. Lying to sway their actions shows how little you actually respect or care about patients.
#EndAbortionDeception
Finally, yes I fucked up and skipped number 4. Sometimes things don't go according to plan and we move forward the best way we see fit.
** never should have had to fear otherwise
