Religion does not strip you of your civic rights, and neither is your rank in leadership of a religious group a reason to boycott politics. Politics is a way of life, a reality that affects not just your economic well-being but mental health. Sheikh Gumi's politics is in order.
One of the silliest arguments we make in defence of objectivity is identifying neutrality as the hallmark of an unbiased person. Neutrality isn't a virtue. As Desmond Tutu once told us, "If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor."
I insist that Sheikh Gumi's politics, no matter how much you believe he has strayed, is in order. It's his constitutionally sanctioned right. Let's flip this skewed argument and allow the "men of God" to be the "men" that's the defining word in this description of their vocation.
