#EnergizingEconomies is the @realREANigeria Programme bringing electricity to major markets/economic clusters across Nigeria: 1st phase covering Ariaria Market in Aba, Sura Shopping Complex, Lagos, Sabon Gari Market, Kano. In total these are tens of thousands of shops benefiting
Project started with energy audits. How many shops in each of these markets? What are their power needs? How much power do they need in all? What’s the best way to provide this power? Solar? CNG?

These markets represent the entrepreneurial energy + economic potential of Nigeria
- Ariaria is almost 32,000 shops.
- Sabongari is 13,500
- Shomolu Printing Community is 4,260
- Sura Shopping Complex is more than 1,000 shops.

So we’re looking at more than 50,000 shops (and traders/artisans) who are being touched by the first phase of #EnergizingEconomies.
The SOLUTIONS:

Ariaria: a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Plant (currently being constructed).

Somolu is also getting a CNG plant

Sabon Gari shops are getting solar panels.

Sura is getting connected to an existing IPP on Lagos Island. I’m told commissioning is veerryy soon
The CNG Power Plant being built in Ariaria Market, Aba by the @MBuhari administration, under the #EnergizingEconomies Programme of @realREANigeria. @NERCNG issued the generation and distribution licenses in June 2018, for a 9.5MW plant, to power the 32,000 shops in the market.
Sabon Gari market in Kano is being powered by Solar Panels, under #EnergizingEconomies. 13,500 shops in total to be covered.
The projects are Public Private Partnerships, with @realREANigeria facilitating all the engagements with the public sector (Federal Agencies, State Govts etc), & also developing the Power Purchase Agreements etc. Private Sector players finance, design, build & operate the plants.
Sura Shopping Complex in Lagos is about 1,000 shops, being connected to an existing IPP on Lagos Island.

All these #EnergizingEconomies projects also include, apart from guaranteed electricity for the shops, Street lighting, for improved security and convenience for traders.
