1/ Of course. These Facebook problems are misrepresented to look one-sided on ethics, with obvious answers. They are in fact nuanced and difficult. People WANT Facebook to invade their privacy.
2/ People have a lot of one-sided ethics, such as blaming oil companies for climate change rather than blaming car drivers. Oil companies don't cause climate change, they only provide the oil to YOU, it's YOU who burns it causing climate change.
3/ There was a recent UN IPCC report about the drastic action need to keep warming under 1.5 degrees. All the press stories talk about Republican deniers. In fact, it's YOU who denies it, the average voter is unwilling to tolerate the $4/gallon gasoline tax that would be needed.
4/ I'm sure if I worked for Facebook I'd be championing causes against stiff opposition, like end-to-end encryption. But I'd recognize my opponents in the company were reasonable, ethical people. I wouldn't take the Holy Crusade approach many infosec take.
5/ Holy Crusades are a big problem in infosec. We've become jack booted police state thugs, imagining the entire world revolves around us -- getting upset when others don't think it does.
