On 18 October 2018, the President of Guatemala, Jimmy Morales, stated there were Middle Easterners caught in the caravan. President Morales also stated these individuals were being deported. Also, Prensa Libre published an article about ME trafficking back in 2016.
Leo Pasapera is an organization that helps smuggle people from the Middle East from Panama through Guatemala where they then move towards the United States. There was a major operation where ten of its members were apprehended in Panama, El Salvador, Costa Rica, & Honduras.
Some of these US based organizations that aid these caravans are wittingly or unwittingly aiding organizations that help traffic unknown Middle Easterners or criminals from Latin America into the United States. Some of these people are known criminals, others are unknown.
